Case Study - Thrifty Car Rental
Thrifty Car Rental
Thrifty Car Rental, a unit of Tulsa, Oklahoma based Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, will use any manner of communications the customer wants if it will meet the companyís goal to ìmake it simple to book a carî.
The Challenge:

About 30% of Thriftyís customers already reserved cars through their website.

ìOur goal is to make it simple to book a car. That means using any manner of access the customer wants,î says Brian Carpenter, Thrifty Car Rentalís vice president of marketing.

Thrifty knew that most customers reserved their cars by phone or on the Internet. They felt adding a wireless component to their system fit their strategy for easy accessibility.

The Wireless Solution:

Wireless consultants from the Dallas-based Perot Systems Corp. prototyped a wireless system that used a Palm device and a wireless application to access existing information on Thriftyís reservation system through the companyís website.

After seeing the prototype, the project was fully funded without delay.

The completed application was developed for less than $100,000. The new application lets customers reserve cars and confirm reservations wirelessly.

Improved Customer Service & Accessibility: At this time, about 15% of Thriftyís website visitors have downloaded the application that allows them to use their wireless Palm to place a reservation or confirm reservations.

Competitive Advantage: Thrifty was one of the first to market with a wireless reservations solution and they have felt much pride and success as they watched their larger rivals follow their lead.
